Big Tech Detective is a browser extension for Chrome and Firefox that reveals how data flows to and from the biggest tech companies and to what extent the tech giants already dominate the digital infrastructure. It does this by blocking all websites that transfer data to Amazon, Facebook, Google and Microsoft. What remains is a patchwork of a few small islands in a sea of monopolists and the realization that, in the current infrastructure, it is almost impossible to avoid the tech giants. The extension is not intended for everyday use, but to illustrate the power structures in the internet. The developers write: "If you can't browse the internet without these companies, what does that say about their monopoly power?“ The software was initiated by the NGO Economic Security Project.

Übrig bleibt ein Flickenteppich von wenigen kleinen Inseln in einem Meer der Monopolisten und die Erkenntnis, in der gegenwärtigen Infrastruktur den Tech-Giganten kaum ausweichen zu können.
